dishwasher or one of those sponges iwth the long handle

Fill it with hot soapy water and shake, rinse well.

according to their website (http://www.nalgene-outdoor.com), you can put them in the top rack of the dishwasher.
if you don’t have a dishwasher, get a ‘baby-bottle’ brush to clean them–you can find those at most grocery stores.

For a thorough cleaning, fill part way with hot water and dish washing liquid or baking soda and insert a clean dish cloth. Stick in a fork and use it to move and swish the cloth around until all surfaces have been cleaned and then run it through the dish washer on the top rack.
