Chris I’m not too sure I can answer your question ~ when you talk about “fleece” this comes from the sheep after it was sheared ~and they use to use it on the inside of jackets to keep the cold out.
Today fleece is used by people like Damark who do a range of items that you can buy to wear and keep the winter cold out ~ I would think that its now a man made fabric ~ because the original fleece had the wool, which had [obviously] gaps in it but protected the body against the cold because the hot air inside stayed within the fleece.
Don’t know if it helps ~ but it may give you an avenue to check on.

Fleece is the skin of a sheep with the wool left on. Today, fleece is plastic. The lining can be any other synthetic fabric, or none, depending on the vest.
