Is it possible to breed a Black Tiger with White stripes?

By Sydney

Like , what if the gene for its Dark black stripes was in place with the white fur , but the gene for the white fur was in place with the black stripes? Wouldn’t that be cool? Even though , I’d think that would be nearly impossible. How hard would you think that would be to breed a tiger like that? No , Im not planning on breeding tigers , thank you. But , is it possible to breed a Black Tiger with White stripes?

White Tigers do not have black stripes – they are brown :)

The closest you can come is a Silver Tabby – black stripes with a silver white undercoat.

But to do a reverse of color – I don’t think it would genetically be possible.

I gotta agree with Ocimom- there are blue tigers, but a complete reversal of the basic coat most likely isn’t possible. At least not with modern technology, although in my opinion it’s not something we should try (white tigers are horribly inbred due to the demand for their coats).
If you’re interested in big cats you might want to research cross-breeds such as leopons and ligers- very interesting stuff :) .
