Does anyone know where I can purchase lye soap? Any tips for dandruff and sensitive skin?

By Sydney

My son is 12…has sensitive skin and his dandruff is more like cradles cap at times. This is inherited his Dad is the same way. He swears by lye soap I need something that works but, is somewhat gentle as son has sensitive skin?

You don’t want to use lye soap, It’s way too harsh, I’m not sure what’s best for dandruff, but Dove soap is very mild for your skin.

I’m afraid, as an experience soapmaker, I have to strongly disagree with the previous answer. Lye soap is the furthest thing from a ‘harsh’ soap. Lye, which is harsh, is no longer in the finished product. Unless you were to purchase soap that wasn’t through curing before it was sold to you (highly unlikely and very poor business practice), it would not be harsh in the least. I apologize for the lengthy answer, I just can’t stand when ignorant people give answers they know nothing about!!!!

For your son’s particular problem, I would suggest a soap with Tea Tree essential oil – Tea Tree is the most wonderful e.o. for sensitive, dry skin, and is said to help with ezcema and other serious skin problems.

Good luck and if I can be of assistance, please let me know.
