CPSIA- HANDMADE BABY BOOTIES ILLEGAL?! Selecta TOYS GONE- TULSA 12-26-08
By
Tiffany Bjorlie who owns Lundeby’s Ecobaby knows all too well how the CPSIA is affecting what items she carries in her Tulsa shop. She explains how Selecta has pulled their eco-friendly toys from the US market. And toys are not the only items that could run scarce. That sweet handmade dress for your little princess or 100% organic cotton onesie for your bouncing baby boy may be on the “extinct” handmade list as well due to stringent testing that will go into force per the Consumer Product …

Oh, so I guess my Grandmothers baby booties she’s been making forever are illegal in the USA? That’s just insane!!!

tax, We have a group of people, Congress, who want to dictate to us how we will live, what we will make, what we can buy, etc, etc, etc. I want everyone to remember, these people work for us. If they keep writting these stupid laws, we can assist them into a new line of work,,,Unemployment!

Uninteded consequences huh?
More like intended, designer consequences. If you think they are too stupid to pull this off than remember that it’s not actually the stupid looking ones doing the planning. The incompetent public figures can’t look smart while pulling this off. Designer incompetence and federal regulation of personal habits.

i did research and found out that government permissible levels of anything are set by industry, not government.

WAKE UP people. This is about control. How much crap are you going to take; what will your children and grandchild have to put up with. Many people have to buy from thrift stores to get by, now they will try to end that as a source of saving. Food co-ops are experiencing harrasment by swat teams (Ohio). Home schoolers are under attack (Calif.). This is incrimental STATISM; stripping away your freedoms by design. Time to network and stand-up for your rights.

Your words: “The natural organic products that would be illegal if they weren’t doing the testing, which is just ridiculous”
Also you mentioned another company that conforms to standards shouldn’t be tested.
You can’t have it both ways. Just because you like/trust/adore a company and what it SAYS it’s doing for safety, doesn’t mean they’re excluded from the laws you advocate.
The law is either applied at the front or back end. Choose.
Again, your naivety is astounding.

You’ve simply exchanged the “greed” (as you call it) of the citizen for greed AND power of a massive centralized government.
Historically this has played out the same way, each and every time. The justification for massive, corrupt, all powerful government is the very reasoning you mentioned.
Everything old is new again. I hope you enjoy the soft tyranny and the new New Deal.

just so everyone knows this has been extended to not just toys but all children’s clothes and toys. this means that until EVERY child book is inspected (including text books) by either the publisher or the owner of the books (schools and libraries included). those books will not be usable and will be considered contraband.
my local grade schools are considering closing for a day or longer starting feb 10th until all equipment is cleared to be used.

you are for the legislation “as long as there is a positive effect on the health of the children”??
how positive of an effect is it when regulations such as this shut down perfectly fine retailers and producers that happen to depend on selling their products in order to feed their children?
are you supporting children going hungry at night because mommy and daddy are unemployed? Not to mention risk losing their health insurance. Would those be positive or negative effects?

tbjorlie, I don’t think you understand what you are in for. Big government does not make anyone safer it makes you a slave. We have NOT had a “Free market” for over 100 years, so the economy is tanking because of regulation, lobbying, and bribery. these are all government traits and character flaws. They are not going to be like mommy and daddy and hold your hand to cross the street, maybe more like Uncle Billy Ray who wants some alone time.

Settle down, go smoke a…

Since there hasn’t been a wave of lead poisoned American made toys this seems silly.
December 7th, 2009 at 12:00 am
Do you have kids? Have you had there lead levels tested? Do you care?

***collective eye roll***

really I am not complaining, the news wanted to know what was going on so I told them, but I am very much for this legislation applying to everyone as long as there is a positive effect on the health of children.
December 7th, 2009 at 12:52 am
Most definitely not it should apply to EVERYONE as the market has proved itself untrustworthy.
December 7th, 2009 at 1:25 am
Well, lead has been found in toy after toy. Do you get CPSC updates on recalls? I do and see high lead content in lines that have previously had recalls for lead content. These lines are still widely available and popular. So how exactly is the free market working? What about the economy?

By no means am I trusting of something just because someone says it is “natural” I am all for testing and if this is the only way to get it done that is fine by me. The only reason Lundeby’s Eco Baby is around is to inspire parents to think a little more about the products which we bring into our households everyday and given them some options that have been well thought out. I actually wish more substance were regulated. I would love to go out of business a a cause of our children being safer.
December 7th, 2009 at 2:24 am
Oh how I would LOVE to be Libertarian! That would mean we lived in a perfect world where everyone did the right thing, maybeone day we will get there. I hope so. Until then I will not hold my breath and will be thankful for legislation like the CPSIA for making the world a little safer.
December 7th, 2009 at 3:17 am
No, I still want protection and I do not mind paying. What are you children worth? I would say everything as health and life is real everything else is just made up. Love, life, and health is all we really need everything else just gets in the way.
December 7th, 2009 at 4:16 am
Hmmm that is funny considering I am still for the CPSIA. Also, if you knew me you would realize that I don’t trust anything without independent, third-party certification. There is a lot of deception in the world and you can’t take anything at face value.
December 7th, 2009 at 4:53 am
Why are you suffering? I am not. Money is made up, health is not. I am also still supporting this legislation, sure I wish it were written differently, but if this is the only way to make children’s products safer so be it. I hope you find happiness in the world, I can tell you it is not through money.
December 7th, 2009 at 4:55 am
you and I DO NOT agree. This regulation is bullshit. My view:
Free-market capitalism:
put lead in a toy means you’ve got a shitty product that nobody would buy and you go out of business making room for the toy producers with value. No need to regulate it. The market does this all by itself.
December 7th, 2009 at 5:32 am
Libertarianism is great in a perfect world. Look around you, we live in a world in which greed pervades. Sure maybe you will do the right thing, but time has come to show that not everyone does and when that greedy person sees a loophole through it they go and the rest of us suffer.
